Providing Care for Patients
Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville provides primary care, specialty care, mental health counseling, preventive health, laboratory services, vital screenings, and medications at no cost to working, uninsured individuals in Northeast Florida.
Our experienced cadre of more than 200 physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other medical and non-medical personnel volunteer their time, skill, and energy to care for our patients, who are treated with the highest levels of quality, dignity and respect. Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville partners with multiple agencies in our community to make sure advanced health needs are met and addressed. We have two locations that are easily accessible for multiple forms of transportation.
Do You Qualify?
Cancer & Diagnostic Screenings
Volunteer in Medicine’s medical professionals recommend preventive screenings for precancers, cancers, and other conditions which may be more easily managed or treated when caught early.
In addition to services we provide through our clinic we have referral resources available. Services include:
Mammograms: VIM provides free breast cancer screenings in partnership with Baptist Health and other health care providers
Diagnostic imaging: VIM offers free imaging which lets doctors look inside your body for clues about a medical condition for men and women that includes sonograms, mammograms, X rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, and more.
Colon cancer screenings: VIM offers free noninvasive Cologuard screenings as a simple option to check for pre-cancers and cancers and has access to free colonoscopies in partnership with Borland Groover and Mayo Clinic.
PAP and HPV screenings: VIM offers a method for early detection of cancer especially of the utrerine cervix (PAP) and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing and vaccination as part of its Well Woman Care, in partnership with Mayo Clinic.
Skin Cancer: VIM offers dermatological (skin) screenings for skin cancers and other problems in partnership with HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital and Coastal Dermatology.
Prediabetes & Diabetes Management
Volunteer in Medicine’s medical care (Primary Care) services for diabetes management include all of the following for FREE:
Ongoing screening and monitoring for a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy- prediabetes and diabetes
Access to diabetic testing supplies, insulin, medications and devices such as the Freestyle Libre
Access to specialty eye care, vision screening (ophthalmology) and care for problems in your feet or lower legs (podiatry)
Eyeglasses provided by volunteer ophthalmologists and in partnership with Vision is Priceless
Personalized nutrition support including ongoing healthy foods and nutrition sessions in partnership with Feeding Northeast Florida
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Lifestyle counseling
Stress management in partnership with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines.
Women’s Health
Volunteer in Medicine’s comprehensive Women’s Wellness program is designed for all life stages & includes the following for FREE:
Pregnancy tests, HPV diagnosis and vaccination, sexually transmitted infection testing, cervical cancer testing, bone density testing and colon cancer screening
Mammograms: Essential testing to screen for breast cancer includes mammograms and ultrasounds in partnership with Baptist Health and other health care providers
Mental health counseling in partnership with Family Foundations
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Stress management in partnership with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines.
Access to a doctor who treats women’s diseases especially those of reproductive organs (Gynecologist) in partnership with Mayo Clinic
Access to a cardiologist: Someone who manages patient’s heart health by screening, diagnosing and treating those with heart disease to help manage their condition and live a healthier life – in partnership with Mayo Clinic
Heart Monitoring: We have access to a small wearable device (Holter Monitor) to provide continuous cardiac monitoring to detect or determine the risk of irregular heart beats (arrhythmias)
Asthma Management
Volunteer in Medicine’s offers FREE ongoing support for asthma management, including:
Ongoing day to day health care given by a health care provider (primary care)
Medical supplies such as inhalers to help you breath better from VIM’s on-site dispensary
Mental health counseling in partnership with Family Foundations
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Stress management in partnership with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines
Nutrition support
Mental Health/Behavioral Counseling
Volunteer in Medicine’s provides FREE onsite mental health counseling 6 days a week at our South San Marco campus in partnership with Family Foundations. We believe mental health is crucial to your overall health. We provide the following:
Stress, depression, and anxiety screenings and referrals
One on one counseling, on site at VIM or via telehealth
Medical professionals who understand mental health
Access to non-addictive medications through VIM’s onsite pharmacy/dispensary
Referrals to see a physician who specializes in diagnosing and prescribing medicine and medical treatment for mental health conditions (psychiatrist)
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Lifestyle counseling
Stress management with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines
Heart health management
Hypertension & Blood Pressure Management
VIM’s medical care (primary care) for those with a blood pressure reading of 130/80 (mm Hg) or higher (hypertension/high blood pressure) include:
Ongoing screening and monitoring of blood pressure
An at-home blood pressure monitor
Medications from VIM’s on-site dispensary
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Lifestyle counseling
Stress management with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines.
Pain Management
You may be coping with a variety of conditions that may require additional support for discomfort or pain, either short-term or long-term. VIM does NOT offer addictive/opioid/narcotic medications, but does offer:
Day-to-day healthcare given by a VIM physician
Non-addictive medications from VIM’s on-site dispensary (e.g., NSAIDs)
Referral to mental health counseling on-site or via telehealth
Pain self-management classes in partnership with Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Access to free physical therapy
Lifestyle counseling
Stress management with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines.
Men’s Health
VIM’s FREE day-to-day healthcare with a medical provider (primary care) addresses the working man’s often neglected healthcare needs, including:
Cancer screenings, including PSA testing (a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer), screening for lung cancer, colon cancer, and other imaging needs.
Screening for diabetes and hypertension, two common conditions involving the way your body processes food to energy and elevated blood pressure levels that can be dangerous when overlooked or untreated.
Mental health counseling on-site or via telehealth
Smoking cessation in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Lifestyle counseling
Stress management with Family Foundations, Yoga 4 Change and UNF’s Campus Canines
Forever Health
Take control of your well-being with Forever Health! This program tackles pain management and mental health concerns head-on, offering alternative therapies that are evidence based to treat pain and manage mental health. Those therapies include:
Yoga: in partnership with Yoga4Change every Saturday at 9:30am
Equine Therapy: a six week session in partnership with the University of North Florida and Paramount Adaptive Riding
Animal assisted therapy: in partnership with UNF Campus Canines
Physical therapy: in partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation
