Florida’s Uninsured Crisis: How VIM-Jax Makes a Difference

Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau highlights a growing crisis in Florida: 13.9% of residents under 65, or about 2.3 million people, are without health insurance. Florida ranks fourth in the nation for uninsured individuals, leaving millions vulnerable to health issues and medical debt.

Fortunately, Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville (VIM-Jax) is here to help. We serve working adults who don’t have insurance, providing free, quality healthcare to those who work at least 20 hours per week and meet specific income requirements. In 2023-2024 alone, VIM-Jax served nearly 1,000 patients from Northeast Florida, including workers like cashiers, drivers, childcare staff, and others who help keep our community running.

By offering ongoing primary and specialty care, VIM-Jax helps people avoid medical emergencies and stay healthy, allowing them to continue supporting their families and avoiding medical debt. Volunteers in Medicine is a lifeline for uninsured Floridians—making a real difference every day.
